Abducted Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, has reportedly died while being held by bandits, Prudentj2 has learned.
Venerable Achi and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Achi, were kidnapped from their residence in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025. Their abduction was first reported by Prudentj2 on October 29, 2025.
After their capture, the abductors sent photographs of the couple to their family as proof of life, demanding a ransom of ₦600 million. The photos showed the priest and his wife looking distressed, while other captives also appeared in chains and visibly malnourished.
A dependable source confirmed on Wednesday night that Venerable Achi, who served as the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna, died while in captivity. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, but the news has deepened concerns over the worsening security crisis in the region.
This tragic development comes just days after Prudentj2 reported another violent attack in Southern Kaduna, where bandits killed two police officers inside the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. The attack occurred the previous Friday evening, according to a local resident.
The death of Venerable Achi has sparked renewed calls for urgent government intervention, as communities across Kaduna State continue to suffer from frequent kidnappings, violent attacks, and deteriorating security conditions.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the priest’s reported death.
