A deep wave of grief swept through Nnewi, Anambra State, on Friday, as two of the four children of late Mrs. Chiamaka Isabel Okeke broke down in uncontrollable tears during the burial rites of their mother, who was killed earlier this year.
Mrs. Okeke, a resident of Nnewi, tragically lost her life on April 15, 2025, after she was reportedly shot by members of the Agunechemba/Udogachi security outfit at Ibeto Junction, Nnewi. Her death drew widespread outrage at the time, with many calling for justice and accountability over the incident.
On Friday, November 28, 2025, the atmosphere at her family compound in Okgunoze Uruezi was heavy with sorrow as her remains were brought from NAUTH mortuary for lying-in-state. In the images seen at the ceremony, two of her young children—dressed in white—could be seen crying bitterly, struggling to come to terms with the painful loss of their mother.
The children, visibly heartbroken, were comforted by relatives and sympathizers, but their grief reflected the deep wound the tragedy has left on the family.
Following the lying-in-state, a funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Akaboezem Uruezi. More tributes poured in as community members, church leaders, friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.
Mrs. Chiamaka, whose obituary poster described her as a beloved wife, sister, daughter, and mother, is survived by her husband and four children.
Her untimely death continues to raise questions among community members, many of whom still hope for justice to be fully addressed.
May her soul rest in peace. 🕯️
