A married woman has shared a troubling account of her marriage, alleging that her husband has stopped speaking to her and issued threats after a disagreement over money and her business.
According to her story, she has been married to her husband for two years. She said she owned a hair salon and wig business even before she met him, while her husband is also gainfully employed. She explained that she has been working hard for years to build her business and recently planned to invest more money to restock her wig inventory.
She said that last week, she mentioned to her husband that she intended to add more capital to her business. When he asked how much she had saved, she told him she had ₦6.3 million. She alleged that within an hour of hearing this, her husband returned and asked her to lend him ₦5 million.
She said she was confused by the request and asked why he wanted the money immediately after she explained it was meant for her business. According to her, this question angered him greatly. She alleged that he insulted her, called her stubborn and “unsubmissive,” and threatened to break her bones. She also claimed he mocked her business, saying he should not have married a woman who already owned a shop and accusing her of getting the money from a “sugar daddy.”
She said she was too shocked to respond as her husband stormed out of the house.
Not long after, she received a call from her mother-in-law, who allegedly said her son complained that his wife had money but refused to help him. She said her mother-in-law lectured her, insisting that a good wife should give her husband whatever he asks for without questioning him.
The woman said she cried throughout the night. Since then, she alleged that her husband has refused to eat any food she cooks and now stays out until very late at night.
She further claimed that the situation worsened when her husband gave her an ultimatum. According to her, he told her she had only two options: to pack her belongings and leave the house, or to shut down her salon completely. She said he told her his friends believe wig stylists are usually involved in hookups and that he wants her to stay at home instead.
She alleged that her husband offered to give her a monthly allowance of ₦100,000 if she agrees to close her business. She said she rejected the offer, explaining that her business sometimes earns more than that amount in a single day and that she cannot abandon something she worked so hard to build.
The woman said her husband has now given her seven days to either change her mind or leave the marriage. She also claimed that her mother-in-law fully supports her son’s actions.
She said she is now living in fear, emotionally drained, and unsure of what step to take next. While she does not want her marriage to end, she said the pressure, threats, and demands have become overwhelming.
Her story has sparked strong reactions online, with many people expressing concern about financial control, emotional abuse, and threats within marriages, while urging her to prioritize her safety and seek help.
