A young man has shared his story online, seeking advice after finding himself in a difficult and embarrassing situation involving his planned marriage and finances.
According to his account, he has been in a relationship with his girlfriend for four years. About a year ago, they both agreed it was time to get married. However, he admitted that his major challenge was money, as he was not financially ready to pay the bride price and complete the marriage rites.
In a surprising move, the woman reportedly offered to help by giving him the money meant for her own bride price. Around the same period, the man told her he needed to travel to another town for work and promised that he would settle the marriage rites once he returned.
While away for about a month, the man said he decided to invest the money in a small business, believing it would grow instead of remaining unused. He admitted that he made the decision without informing his girlfriend.
Unfortunately, the investment failed, and he lost the entire amount.
He said he returned home about a week ago, only to be informed by his girlfriend that she had already told her family to prepare for his visit to officially carry out the marriage rites. According to him, her family’s demand for the bride price is ₦500,000 — the exact amount she had given him earlier.
The man described his current state as one of deep shame and confusion, saying he does not know how to explain the situation to his girlfriend. He fears she may not believe his claim that the money was invested and lost, especially since she only loaned him the money strictly for the purpose of paying her bride price.
He has now appealed for advice, admitting that he feels embarrassed, guilty, and overwhelmed by the situation, as the marriage plans move closer with no money left to fulfill the obligation.
