According to residents, the incident happened yesterday when the boy was suddenly struck directly in the eye by an Ekpo masquerade. Eyewitnesses said the blow was so heavy that the boy immediately fell down and began to cry uncontrollably from the sharp pain. His eye was left swollen, bruised and bleeding.
Pictures shared shows the boy’s eye area covered in red injuries, with swelling that has almost closed the eye. Locals say he has been unable to receive proper medical treatment because there is no money.
“He is just a struggling boy. He wanted to go to the hospital but there is no money. He has been in serious pains since yesterday,” a concerned resident said.

The incident has left many people in the community worried. Residents say masquerades, which are part of traditional celebrations in the area, are sometimes known to flog people during performances. However, many argue that this particular case went too far as the boy has been left with a very serious injury.
The boy’s condition is said to be worsening as he continues to endure the pain without proper medical attention. Relatives and neighbours are appealing for urgent financial assistance to enable him to get treatment at a hospital before the injury causes permanent damage to his eye.
The matter remains the talk of Eka Obong community as residents await intervention and support for the injured boy.
