According to reports from neighbours, the couple had been experiencing marital problems for some time. Tensions between them grew worse in recent weeks, until tragedy struck two days ago.
Witnesses say the man went out, bought petrol, and returned to the home his wife had acquired through a mortgage. He reportedly poured the petrol around the house before striking a match and setting it ablaze.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the man stood by, watching as the fire consumed the house, and even chased away anyone who attempted to get close or put out the flames. Within a short time, the entire property was reduced to ashes.
Community members say the woman had worked very hard to secure the house, while her husband allegedly became bitter because he did not own anything of his own. “He was jealous because she had a house and he did not,” one neighbour explained.
The woman is now stranded after losing her home and all her belongings. Local residents have expressed shock over the incident, describing it as an act of cruelty and envy.
Police are yet to give an official statement on the case, but residents are calling for justice as investigations into the matter continue.
