A big arrest happened in Nigeria on Monday, 15th September 2025. Soldiers from the Nigerian Army caught a man called Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, who goes by the name Gentle De Yahoo. He calls himself a commander in a group that wants Biafra to be its own country. This group is the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, and their fighting arm is the Eastern Security Network, or ESN. Gentle De Yahoo led a small team inside IPOB called the Biafran Liberation Army. He made videos online where he talked about fighting for Biafra and said bad things about other leaders in the group. He even promised to follow a man named Simon Ekpa, who is in prison in Finland for terrorism. But Gentle De Yahoo got into trouble before this arrest. Back in August 2025, people said he shot and killed three teenage boys in Okigwe, Imo State. They said the boys took one of his guns without asking and used it for robbery. He denied doing it in some videos, but the police wanted him for that and other bad things.
The army did not say much about how they found him. They just told everyone that troops from the 34 Artillery Brigade went to his hiding spot in Aku-Ihube village. This village is in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The soldiers worked with other security teams, like the police, to make the capture. They raided the place and took Gentle De Yahoo without any big fight. Now he is in custody, and the army says he will face the law for his actions.
This arrest is part of a busy day for the Nigerian Army. In the same 24 hours, they stopped two bandits in Katsina State and took their gun and bike. In Benue State, soldiers killed one bad guy and found some charms and a phone. They also caught 11 other people in Benue, Kogi, and Kaduna States for things like stealing with guns and other crimes. In Adamawa, Katsina, and Kogi, the army saved 11 people who had been kidnapped. In Plateau State, they got back 40 cows that thieves had taken and gave them to the owners.
Gentle De Yahoo has been on the run for a while. Earlier in the year, in April 2025, IPOB said he was not one of them. They called him a fake who worked for the government to make their group look bad. They even said a video of him showed he was part of kidnappings and stealing cars in the southeast. But Gentle De Yahoo kept making videos where he said he was fighting for Biafra and warned other commanders. He talked about clashes with groups like Musa Boys and Asari Boys. Some videos from February and March 2025 show him and his team chasing enemies or taking over areas.
People in Imo State feel a bit safer now that he is caught. The army says they keep working to stop groups like ESN from causing trouble.
