A Nigerian mother of three has taken to social media to seek legal and emotional guidance after her husband abandoned their home two years ago and is now reportedly planning a new wedding with another woman.
The woman, who was married for 11 years, said the crisis started in 2023 when her husband became angry over an allegation that she failed to serve food to his visiting relatives. According to her, he physically assaulted her without hearing her side of the story.
She explained that on May 1, 2023, he packed his belongings and left their matrimonial home, leaving her solely responsible for their three daughters, aged 14, 9 and 3. Attempts by her family to resolve the issue through a meeting with his family were unsuccessful, as his relatives allegedly refused to show up.
She said her husband stopped providing financial support for the children for five months after he left, forcing her to rely on small savings to take care of the family. She added that he is yet to finish paying the traditional marriage requirements owed to her family.
What has now worsened her emotional distress, she said, is discovering that her estranged husband is preparing for a full wedding ceremony with another woman he recently met, despite never officially resolving their separation.
The mother revealed that the stress of the situation has affected her health, causing high blood pressure. Her first daughter, she added, has also been disturbed by the ongoing family crisis.
Despite the challenges, she recently secured a well-paying job as an accountant with a private international bank—an opportunity her husband had previously forbidden her from pursuing while they were together.
She is now asking for legal and personal advice on whether she can take legal action against her husband or if she should simply focus on rebuilding her life.
Her story has sparked reactions online, with many encouraging her to prioritize her emotional well-being, seek legal counsel regarding child support and custody, and take advantage of her new job to rebuild stability for herself and her daughters.
