A young first-time mother has cried out for help after experiencing a series of unsettling events surrounding the birth of her baby boy. The woman, who recently gave birth to her first child, shared her story and asked the public for sincere advice as she struggles to understand what is happening around her.
According to her account, she grew up as an orphan raised by her grandmother, while her husband spent nearly two decades living abroad after losing his mother in his twenties. His aunt, who lives overseas, reportedly sponsored his travel and education. Upon returning to Nigeria after nineteen years, he married her and soon left again to resume work abroad.
Before traveling, he secured a house for her, as she discovered she was pregnant shortly after he left. Months later, when she was seven months pregnant, her husband pleaded with his stepmother to live with her temporarily and assist her through her first pregnancy. The stepmother agreed and moved in just three weeks before the delivery.
According to the new mother, the stepmother had been quiet but supportive, and even rushed her to the hospital when her water broke. Trouble began during labor.
The woman said she labored from 4 p.m., enduring hours of severe pains with no progress. The medical team began preparing her for a possible caesarean section when the doctor suddenly asked who accompanied her to the hospital. She told him her husband’s mother was waiting outside.
Moments later, according to her, the doctor asked the stepmother to leave the hospital premises completely—either to go home or wait outside the hospital compound.
She stated that five minutes after the stepmother left, her baby was delivered naturally without any further complications.
Although relieved to deliver safely, she said she has since felt deeply confused about the incident.
After returning home, she noticed new concerns. Her baby reportedly cries uncontrollably whenever the stepmother carries him, only calming down when she takes the child back. She said the crying starts even when the baby merely sees the woman approaching.
But the most disturbing moment happened a few nights ago.
According to her, she woke up around 2 a.m. to find her husband’s stepmother standing silently over the baby’s bed in the darkness. The woman was not touching the child—only staring. When confronted, the stepmother allegedly replied in a low voice that she was “only checking if the baby was breathing,” before walking quickly back to her room.
The new mother said the look on her stepmother’s face did not resemble concern or affection, and the entire moment left her deeply uncomfortable.
Now one week after delivery, the confused mother says she does not know whether these events are coincidences, personal paranoia, or signs she should take seriously. She fears asking the stepmother to leave, worried it might spark a serious family conflict, especially since her husband currently lives abroad.
She is torn between keeping peace in the family and protecting her newborn child, unsure whether to speak to her husband or remain quiet.
The young mother is now begging for public advice, saying:
“Please, I don’t know what to do. I’m scared. I don’t know if I’m overthinking or if my baby is trying to tell me something. I really need help.”
Her story has raised discussions online about maternal instincts, the role of in-laws in childcare, and the emotional vulnerability of new mothers—especially those caring for a newborn without their husband physically present.
