The Catholic Diocese of Kaduna has confirmed the abduction of one of its priests, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, following a violent attack on Kushe Gugdu community in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025, when armed men invaded the parish premises and forcefully took the priest from his residence.
The Diocese announced the development in an official statement signed by its Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Okewu Emmanuel, describing the attack as a painful and distressing blow to the Church and the local community.
The statement read in part:
“I write to inform you of the attack on Kushe Gugdu and the abduction of one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, Parish Priest of St Stephen Parish, Kushe Gugdu, in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, from his residence during the early hours of today, Monday, 17th of November, 2025.”
According to the Diocese, the assailants did not only abduct the priest but also kidnapped several other residents. In addition, the brother of Rev. Fr. Anthony Yero was reportedly killed during the attack.
“During the attack, many others were abducted, and the brother of Rev. Fr. Anthony Yero was killed,” the statement added.
The Diocese appealed to Christians and the general public to remain prayerful and hopeful for the safe return of Rev. Fr. Paschal and the other abducted victims. It also prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased.
This latest attack adds to the rising cases of abductions and killings in parts of Kaduna State, heightening concerns over security and the safety of clergy members and rural communities.
The Church urged authorities to intensify efforts to curb insecurity and bring the perpetrators to justice.
