According to information gathered by Prudentj2, the INEC officials were on an official journey from Abuja to Anambra State in preparation for the November 8 governorship election before the tragic incident occurred.
The kidnapped INEC staff have been identified as Chinenye Orji, Adamaka Anih, and Catherine Temaugee. They were said to have been deployed to Anambra to print voters’ registers and other important election materials.
The victims were reportedly travelling in a Sienna minibus belonging to Anambra Comfort Line Transport Company. The journey, which began at the popular Utako Park in Abuja around 9 a.m., took a dangerous turn around 3 p.m. when the vehicle ran into an ambush by armed men along the Aloma axis in Kogi State.
The driver of the bus, who survived the attack, recounted the horrifying moment in a phone conversation obtained by Prudentj2. He said the kidnappers suddenly emerged from the bush, heavily armed, and began shooting at their vehicle.
“They took over the highway and started firing at our bus. The bullets shattered our windscreen. Everyone screamed and tried to duck. They ordered us out at gunpoint. My wife was with me in the car. They took everyone, including her,” the visibly shaken driver narrated.

According to him, all passengers were taken into the bush, but he and an elderly woman who had difficulty walking were later released by the kidnappers.
The elderly woman, who also spoke to reporters, confirmed the incident.
“We were in the same vehicle, travelling to Awka. It happened shortly after Aloma, around 3 p.m. We had earlier stopped at Lokoja to eat. The kidnappers took all of us, but later released the driver and me. They said they were going to contact the families of those they took. We went straight to report the case at Aloma Police Station.”
A source close to INEC also confirmed that the three abducted women were members of staff on official duty.
“The ladies were deployed to Anambra to help with the printing of voters’ registers and other preparations for the upcoming election. They left Abuja this morning on official assignment. Sadly, they were kidnapped along the way,” the source said.
The same source further explained that the attack happened in the afternoon, and the gunmen, after firing shots, forced the passengers out of the car and took them into the forest.
“The bullets hit the car, but luckily, none of the passengers was injured before being taken away,” the source added.
As of the time of filing this report, the kidnappers have not contacted any family or authority to make ransom demands. The matter has already been reported to the police, and security agencies are said to have launched an investigation into the incident.
The driver and the elderly woman who were freed have since been helping the police with useful information.
The unfortunate event has again raised deep concerns over the increasing cases of insecurity on Nigerian highways, especially in Kogi, where several kidnappings and armed robbery attacks have been recorded in recent months.
Travellers have continued to live in fear, with many calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to make major roads safer, especially as the country approaches another crucial election season.
Efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Command for further comments were still ongoing at the time of this report.
