Davina’s short life came to an end in the very place she thought she would find love and acceptance — her father’s house.
According to reports, Davina was raised by her mother, Miss Dorcas, for 13 years. Her father, one Mr Taye, allegedly abandoned Dorcas and Davina when she was a baby. He moved on with his life, got married, and started a new family.
But in August this year, Taye suddenly contacted Dorcas, saying it was time for his daughter to know him. He asked Dorcas to allow Davina spend the holiday with him and his new family. Dorcas, who had been carrying the burden of raising her daughter alone, agreed. She believed that maybe it was finally time for her daughter to have a relationship with her father.
Sadly, that decision turned into her worst nightmare.
While Davina was with her father, Dorcas began receiving disturbing voice notes. In those recordings, Taye, his wife, and his sister boldly told her that she would never see her daughter again. They claimed that they would be the ones to keep Davina and train her. At first, Dorcas thought it was a joke. She believed that after the holiday, her child would come back home.
Then, two weeks before school resumed, Davina secretly called her mother using her father’s phone. She begged her mother to come and take her away. She was scared and unhappy. But before Dorcas could say much, Taye reportedly intercepted the call. He told Dorcas to ignore Davina, saying she would adapt to her new environment.
When school resumed in September, Dorcas contacted Taye, reminding him that it was time for her daughter to return home. To her greatest shock, she was told that Davina had died and had already been buried.
On Sunday, 7 September 2025, Dorcas rushed to the family compound in Ugbolokposo. Instead of answers, she was allegedly beaten up by Taye’s relatives. They later showed her the fresh grave of her only daughter. Dorcas fainted at the sight.
When she regained consciousness, she reported the matter to the police. The Ebrumede Police Division quickly moved into action. But by the time officers arrived at the compound, most members of Taye’s family had fled. His wife was however arrested. She told the police that she had left the house a week earlier and did not know what happened to Davina.
Taye himself has since disappeared. He is now on the run. He reportedly told some people that his daughter fell sick on Sunday, 7 September, that he rushed her to a hospital, and that she died the same day. Without informing her mother, he buried her immediately.
This explanation has only raised more questions. Why was Dorcas not informed when her daughter was sick? Why was Davina buried so quickly without her mother’s consent? Why did the father and his relatives threaten that Dorcas would never see her child again?
Miss Dorcas, broken and in tears, is now calling on the police to exhume her daughter’s body and conduct a proper autopsy to know what really killed her child. She is also demanding that Taye be declared wanted, arrested, and prosecuted.
The tragic story of Davina has sparked outrage in Delta State and beyond. Many are demanding justice for the young girl who only wanted to know her father but ended up dead.
As the police continue their investigation, one thing is clear: Davina’s death cannot be swept under the carpet. Her voice may have been silenced, but her story is crying out for justice.
