I Still Can’t Get Over You: Man Recounts Painful Loss of Wife After Childbirth

According to him, the tragic experience began on what was supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives — the birth of their children. Chisom, whom he described as “prayerful, full of life, and a woman who never showed anger,” endured complications after the surgery. Despite being pale and weak, she still managed to smile and express joy that she had successfully brought their babies into the world.
“She looked at me and said, ‘Sugar, I did it, I did this for us. Do you like our babies? I hope they are beautiful?’” Uzochukwu recalled in his post, describing it as one of the most haunting yet beautiful moments he will never forget.
Moments later, he was summoned into the hospital room by her mother. There, he found Chisom staring at him, struggling as if to say something. “Her eyes spoke louder than words, as if she was pleading with me to save her,” he wrote. “But I couldn’t do anything, and she finally succumbed to the gnawing pains.”
For Uzochukwu, that marked the abrupt end of their love story. “Som Som, I am so sorry it has to be this way. Life wasn’t fair to us,” he wrote with anguish, asking how a woman so gentle and full of joy could be taken so cruelly.
Despite his grief, Uzochukwu finds solace in raising their children, twins Chimsom and Kambili, who now carry her legacy. He revealed that he named their daughter after her late mother. “Kambili is a voracious eater and has a sweet stubbornness. Chimsom is already a drama queen who often makes a mess during feeding,” he shared, lamenting that their mother is no longer here to enjoy these moments.
The post ended with a prayer for all expectant mothers, declaring that no woman reading his story will die during childbirth, and no family will have to experience such painful loss.
