Family Alert Led to Arrest
Utah Governor Spencer Cox later confirmed Robinson’s arrest, crediting a family member who alerted police after the suspect allegedly confessed. Surveillance footage placed Robinson on campus in a grey Dodge Challenger shortly before the deadly shooting.
Weapon Recovered, Chilling Messages Found
The FBI recovered the suspected murder weapon, a Mauser .30-06 rifle fitted with a scope, hidden in a wooded area and wrapped in a towel. Disturbingly, shell casings found at the scene carried inscriptions such as “Bella Ciao”—a reference to the Italian anti-fascist resistance song—alongside other mocking messages.
Authorities also traced Discord messages linked to Robinson, where he spoke about retrieving the weapon from a “drop point.”
A Brilliant Student with a Dark Plan
Robinson, described as highly intelligent, lived in a luxury $600,000 apartment and was a recipient of the Residential Presidential Scholarship—a fully funded merit-based award given only to the most outstanding students.
Investigators revealed Robinson had expressed suicidal thoughts and had planned to disappear after the attack. Instead, his father’s decision to turn him in led to his capture.
Investigation Ongoing
Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith called the case “a vast, complicated, and fast-paced investigation.” FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that forensic evidence was recovered quickly from the large crime scene.
Officials say no additional arrests have been made, but the case remains active.
