In the photos, a man dressed in military camouflage appeared bloodied, battered, and forcefully dragged by armed men. Another image showed him being pulled by the collar, his face swollen and stained with fake blood. These scenes triggered heated debates online, with several Nigerians condemning what they believed to be a real-life abduction of a Nigerian Army officer.
However, investigations later revealed that the viral pictures were not real. They were actually behind-the-scenes moments from a new Kannywood movie titled “Yunquri: The Target”, produced by Y2S Studio.
The movie, featuring actor Ya’u Sa’eed Mubi in the role of the soldier, depicts fictional encounters between security forces and bandits. The realistic makeup, costumes, and props used during filming created such a convincing illusion that many Nigerians mistook the staged scenes for real-life tragedy.
While the revelation brought relief to some, others criticized the spread of the misleading images. Many argued that movie producers must do more to ensure that film stills are not released in ways that can fuel misinformation, especially in a country already battling insecurity.
Security experts also cautioned Nigerians to always verify sensitive information before sharing it online, warning that unverified images can heighten fear, distrust, and panic among citizens.
The film producers, meanwhile, have expressed excitement about the publicity, stating that the movie aims to shed light on the dangers of banditry and the resilience of security personnel.
The incident highlights how quickly false information can spread on social media, and why caution is needed in a time where fear and emotions often override facts.
