In the chat, the soldier, who was on the battlefield, poured out his struggles and revealed how tough life in the bush had become for him. Despite the hardship, he still thought of his family, especially his mother.

Soldier: “Thank you my best man.”
That was the last time they spoke.
Less than a day later, devastating news emerged — the brave soldier had been killed in combat. A photo shared online showed his lifeless body being carried by fellow soldiers, confirming the painful reality.
The post by his friend, who shared both their chat and the picture of his corpse, has since gone viral. Nigerians have flooded social media with emotional reactions, lamenting how soldiers sacrifice so much yet live under difficult conditions with little recognition until their death.
Many described the story as “one of the saddest reminders of the price soldiers pay for peace and safety.” Others called on the government to improve the welfare of troops on the frontline.
For his friend who sent the money, the soldier’s final words — “Thank you my best man” — will forever remain etched in his heart.
