Hope walked the streets alone for many months. He ate food he found on the floor and sometimes from rubbish. He slept inside bushes and uncompleted buildings. His body was very thin. He was weak and sick. People passed him by, but no one wanted to help.
One day, a Danish woman called Anja Ringgren Loven saw him during a rescue. She bent down, gave him water to drink from a bottle, and wrapped him in a blanket. She carried him to the hospital.
Doctors quickly treated him. They gave him medicine to kill the worms in his stomach. They gave him blood transfusions every day because he had very little blood in his body. Anja asked the world to help with the cost. In just two days, more than one million dollars was donated for his care.
Slowly, Hope became strong again. He grew up healthy. His pictures spread across the world. People who once cried when they saw his old photos now smile when they see the new ones.
Today, many years later, Hope is no longer the weak boy on the street. He is a fine young boy, full of life and joy. Recently, he graduated from primary school. A picture of him holding his certificate with a big smile has made people emotional again.
Hope’s journey from suffering to celebration is one that touched the whole world.
