Fr. Eya was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen along the Eha-Alumona road in Nsukka Local Government Area. His car, riddled with bullets and soaked in blood, was abandoned in the middle of the road—a chilling scene that has thrown the Catholic community and residents into mourning.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malachy Agbo, the government described the attack as “cowardly and cold-blooded.
Agbo said Governor Peter Mbah’s administration was deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences to the priest’s family, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and the wider Catholic community.
“The security of lives and property remains a top priority. We will spare no resources—technology, intelligence, or manpower—to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement read.
The government urged anyone with credible information to come forward and assist security agencies in their investigation, providing a hotline: 07077451426 for anonymous tip-offs.
