A heartbreaking story is coming out of Enugu State, Nigeria, as a mother mourns the sudden death of her healthy young son, Chimdindu, after what was supposed to be a simple ear checkup at a private clinic.
The incident has left the family in deep pain and raised questions about the practices of some clinics and their workers.
He Was Healthy, Happy and Strong – Mother Cries Out
Peace Chinonye Lemoha, the mother of the late Chimdindu, shared her pain on social media, explaining how her son, who was full of life and had no signs of sickness, walked into the clinic himself.
According to her, Chimdindu had only complained of slight ear pain, and she decided to take him to a nearby clinic to see an ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctor for a simple check.
“My son was not sick. His temperature was checked at the clinic, and it was 36.8. He had no fever. He even climbed the scale himself to check his weight. He walked in with Caprisonne in his hand,” she wrote with deep sorrow.
She added that her son was lively, fully dressed and excited, not knowing what was about to happen.
A Quack Nurse, A Wrong Injection and A Child’s Last Breath
According to the grieving mother, a nurse working at the clinic gave Chimdindu an injection that ended his life instantly. She claimed that the nurse mixed lidocaine with ceftriaxone and gave it to her son through an intravenous (IV) injection.
Medical experts say that lidocaine, when used wrongly—especially intravenously in children—is extremely dangerous and can cause sudden death. The mother cried that the combination used had no medical approval and is known to be fatal.
“No one has ever survived it, they said. And they used it on my baby,” she lamented.
After the injection, Chimdindu reportedly passed away within minutes. The once playful child who had walked into the clinic with no sign of illness, was now lifeless.
“They Killed My Son” – Pain That Words Cannot Explain
In another emotional message, Peace Chinonye Lemoha said she is still in shock. She said that she has been walking on the road crying, not knowing how to bear the pain.
“My child was healthy. He just had a small ear complaint. I took him for a simple check, and he never came out alive,” she said.
“My son was wrapped in a cloth and taken straight to the grave. He did not return home with me. He left home healthy and dressed up, but I returned home with empty hands.”
She added that all the clinic could say was, “I am sorry.”
Nigerians Demand Investigation and Justice
After the news broke online, many Nigerians began calling for a full investigation into the clinic and the nurse who handled the injection. People have raised concerns about how many clinics are run without proper supervision or qualified medical workers.
A woman commented, “How can a nurse give that kind of injection to a child without checking his medical history? This is pure wickedness.”
Another said, “Too many clinics are hiring untrained workers. Government must wake up and do something.”
Medical professionals who read the story also confirmed that ceftriaxone mixed with lidocaine must be used with extreme caution, and never given intravenously to small children. They say that only well-trained professionals should handle such medications, and even then, only when absolutely necessary.
The Boy Called “Chimoma”
Peace described her son as joyful and kind. She called him “Chimoma,” a name she used with love at home.
“Go well, my beautiful son,” she wrote in her goodbye message. “I am still processing what happened. But the reality is that my son is gone forever.”
The death of Chimdindu has left the community in tears. Friends, neighbours and even strangers have been sending words of comfort and asking how this could have happened in a registered clinic.
As of the time of writing, there has been no official statement from the clinic. People are demanding that the **Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)**, **Nursing and Midwifery Council**, and other health agencies begin a proper investigation.
This sad case has once again opened the conversation about fake clinics, untrained health workers and the risks parents unknowingly face when trying to care for their children.
For now, a mother weeps. A family is broken. And a little boy who went for a simple ear check will never come back.
If you are a parent, always double-check the place you are taking your child to. Ask questions.
