Security operatives have successfully rescued 13 passengers of a Benue Links vehicle abducted in Eke, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. The rescue was confirmed by the Local Government Chairman, Adah Inalegwu, on Sunday.
Inalegwu disclosed that a joint operation involving police and local vigilantes led to the rescue of two victims on Saturday. Sustained pressure from combined efforts of local youths and support from neighboring Kogi State forced the kidnappers to abandon the remaining 11 victims at Oando village around 4:00 pm on Sunday.
The chairman credited the success of the operation to enhanced logistics provided by Governor Hyacinth Alia, which bolstered security surveillance and tracking efforts. “The provision of logistics by the governor, with improved security measures, was instrumental in securing the release of the victims,” Inalegwu stated.
The rescued passengers are currently being profiled before being reunited with their families. When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said, “I don’t have that information right now but will get back when I do.”
The rescue marks a significant achievement in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and ensure safety in Benue State.
