A pregnant woman and five others have been killed in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa State.
According to reports, several others were injured, while houses, motorcycles, and a police patrol vehicle were set on fire.
Police spokesperson Nansel Ranham confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, March 11, adding that security forces had been deployed to restore order.
The six identified victims were Simeon Madaki, Ayawu Senior, Sunday Wa’azu, Vincent Sunday, Taimako Senior, and Filibus Jatau Mai’anguwa.
Three injured victims were rescued and taken to the hospital. In the chaos, a police patrol vehicle was vandalized, and a nearby Ruga settlement was set on fire, leading to the deaths of Azumi Allah Gaba and her unborn child.
Two suspects have been arrested, and authorities say normalcy has been restored to the area.
However, a resident, Yakubu Joshua, claimed that the death toll was much higher, alleging that over 20 people had been killed, with many others still missing.
