My wife has been on night shift for one month, only for me to find out that she has never been on a night shift. My name is James. My wife came home on the 8th of January, 2024, to inform me that she had been placed on night shift throughout the month. I was a bit worried because we have a seven-month-old baby, and me staying at home alone every night with her sister is something I didn't want. But because she loves her job, even before I got married to her, I couldn't stop her from her job. I told her, "No problem, I will take care of the baby with the support of your sister."
On the second week of January, she was always coming back to tell me how lonely she felt during her break. I then promised myself to surprise her so we could stay in the car throughout her break. I just wanted her to work with a cool mind. On the night I left for her workplace, I told her sister to take care of my baby. When I got to my wife's workplace, she was not around. I asked those on duty to please search for her. I was told that my wife has never been placed on a night shift since she gave birth. Yeah, a night shift is not for nothing, mother. I went back to my car. So many thoughts were running through my head. I went home. I couldn't sleep. I called her numbers. They were all switched off. I almost had a heart attack that night. I was awake till 8 am the next day. That was when she came back. I asked her where she was coming from. She said from work. She tried raising her voice to question me for asking such stupid questions. "What's the meaning of this? Who doesn't know I go to work? Why the question?" my wife asked.
I called her sister and sat her down. "Ask your sister where she's coming from," I said. My wife said she's coming from night duty with her voice blaring and mouth running like a tap. I was looking at her with so much shame and disappointment. I refused to tell her I was at her workplace. I called her mother on the phone. "Mama, tell your daughter to say where she's coming from." My wife was still not going to say the truth. I told her she has just a day to tell me where she's coming from or she will leave my house. On that same night by 7 pm, she told me she was reporting to work. I told her she's going nowhere. I locked the house. The next day she still insisted that she was going to go to work. I told her to pack her things and move out of my house without my child. "I can train my child all by myself. Yes, I have seen single fathers doing a great job in raising their children. I will raise my own child myself," I said. As I was saying this, I was crying inside of me. To think that I married my wife as a virgin, she never loved sex, not until she became pregnant and I saw the other side of her wanting sex every night. And I have never denied her. What could she be looking for outside, please? Did I do any wrong by sending her away?
