Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has criticized men who depend on their wives financially, calling the trend "disturbing, useless, and dangerous." In a recent video, the actor stressed that a man’s primary responsibility is to provide for his family and warned women about overcompensating for their husbands’ shortcomings.
Kanayo stated:
*"A man who cannot feed his family has no need and no use to use his private part on a woman. It's a responsibility. You know, women try to cover their husbands. And this is an advice to young women: know who you marry.
All you place above everything is love, 'I love him, I love him.' But provision, meal... when he doesn’t provide, you start having the idea and approaches from men."*
He urged women to protect their husbands but cautioned against providing so much support that it leads to their husbands becoming lazy and irresponsible.
In the caption accompanying his video, he wrote:
*"Women, protect your husbands BUT DO NOT provide them with the type of covering that leads to irresponsibility.
Many husbands shy away from their responsibilities when the wife is hardworking. I AM A WITNESS."*
Kanayo’s message has sparked a heated conversation online, with many debating the roles of men and women in marriage.
What’s your take? Should men bear the sole financial responsibility in a marriage, or is a shared approach more realistic in today’s world?
