Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential Candidate for the Labour Party, has declared that the next general election in Nigeria will not be like the one held in 2023.
In a short eight-second video circulating on Twitter (X), Obi said, "The next election won’t be the same. I can tell you, the next election won’t be the same." He made this statement while holding a microphone in an undisclosed location.
This comment comes shortly after Obi’s recent meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at Atiku’s home in Adamawa. Their meeting sparked discussions online, as it was the first time in a long while the two political figures had been seen together publicly.
Many believe the 2023 election strained their relationship, as both men ran separately for the presidency, splitting votes that could have gone to a single opposition candidate and losing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nigerians on social media are now speculating about the implications of Obi’s statement. Some believe he could be hinting at a possible collaboration with Atiku to challenge the APC government in 2027.
Nigerians are saying on Twitter (X):
@Mazipita: "If rigging is the only way to win, so be it. Being a gentleman won’t make you president."
@asababoi2man: "We’re voting for Peter Obi alone. No room for opportunists."
@MayJaYBaE: "The next election will be the toughest in Nigeria’s history."
@askiaz__: "The next election may still be the same. Your chances might improve after 2027—Buhari also lost twice before becoming president."
@JUSTINBLAC15281: "Don’t be too sure. Nigeria is beyond redemption."
While Obi’s statement has sparked excitement among his supporters, it has also raised questions about how different the next election will truly be. Only time will tell.
