According to the Wall Street Journal, a French cloud business has launched an antitrust case against Microsoft, focusing on the way the corporation licenses its famous Office software suite.
The European Commission has received a complaint alleging that Microsoft's Azure Cloud is less expensive to use than its competitors due to the way Microsoft licenses its Office products. "By exploiting its dominating position in the cloud computing services market, Microsoft undermines fair competition and limits consumer choice," OVHCloud told the Wall Street Journal.
This isn't the first time Microsoft has been chastised for its product packages. Slack filed a similar case in 2020, stating that Microsoft was refusing to let other services interface with Teams, instead opting to bundle it with Office 365 to gain market share. Last year, cloud storage provider Nextcloud filed a complaint regarding OneDrive and Windows OS being bundled together.
The lawsuit was submitted in collaboration with many other companies, according to OVHCloud, which did not name them in its statement to the Wall Street Journal. "We're constantly reviewing how we can effectively serve partners and make Microsoft products available to customers across all settings, including those of other cloud providers," Microsoft said in the report.
