This operating system is designed for budget devices that have no more than 2 GB of RAM installed (and until January 2020, all devices from the Go series had only 1 GB of RAM installed). At the same time, this is the same Android, but with lightweight Google Play + services, developers from the Good Corporation have added a mechanism to their new operating system that allows only 4 applications to work in the background.
It turns out that programs written for Android Go Edition should work on weak hardware and at the same time have the same functionality as their older brothers.
To rephrase, developers simply have to optimize their applications rather than rely on the user having a beast machine with 6-8 GB of RAM. And both users of budget smartphones and users of "regular" Android benefit from this - after all, applications are compatible with both systems!

Why do I need this and what applications can already be downloaded?
The same programs, but their sizes and appetites are very different from each other! For example, the size of "Facebook Lite" is only 1.5 megabytes, and the "regular" application occupies 56 MB - the functionality is the same, but remember that Facebook Lite can work in parallel with other three applications, and in total they cannot consume more than 1024 MB RAM ... And if you can't see the difference, then why waste your smartphone's resources for nothing ?! Let's take a look at TikTok 👇

This is in about six months. At the same time, TikTok Lite does not change its size at all. It happens, of course, that "Memory" exceeds 200 MB, but after rebooting the smartphone, or deleting the cache through the application settings, everything returns to normal, and TikTok Lite takes exactly as much space as it needed during the very first installation. The answer is obvious. Optimization! Google requires developers to make sure their apps fly on Android Go and don't take up too much space.
That is why I prefer to use versions of popular applications on my Go / Lite phone, although I have Xioami Mi 9T (at the time of purchase it was a pretty good device | 2019, Snapdragon 730), but as I wrote earlier - if you can’t see the difference, then why waste the resources of your smartphone how much in vain?
