Cross River State gives fresh strategy to tackle Kidnapping in the waterways of the State
Resulting in recent killings in Cross River State. The State Government has announced its plans to register a vast number of boats and vessels, operating in the State to curb kidnappers across the waterways.
This information is contained in a statement by Mr. Bobby Ekpenyong, the Director-General of the state's waterways agency in Calabar, on Wednesday.
Mr. Ekpenyong made it clear that operations could be legally licensed on December 1st. Which is announced to be the end of the registration, and the beginning of this massive operation in the waterways.
He pointed out that the registration suddenly became compulsory, due to an increase in kidnapping amidst other crimes in the waterways of the States.
He said;
"Governor Ben. Ayade is worried about the incessant kidnapping and illegal activities going on in the state's waterways. He has directed the necessary measures to be put in place to address the ugly trend".
He also advised that those involved in these activities should refrain from this act. As there will be steady security in the waterways, from next month, December.
"I want to use this opportunity to warn all operators of wooden boats, fiber engine boats, and vessels operating in the States will be impounded as from January 1st", he continued.
The News Agency of Nigeria released reports that the State has increased numbers of kidnappings, within the last few weeks. As perpetrators use these waterways as an escape route to the creeks.
