A Nigerian businessman has shared an emotional account of how a Christmas visit to his village to formally introduce his fiancée to his mother ended in disappointment and renewed heartbreak, as his mother once again rejected the woman he hopes to marry.

According to the man, the visit was meant to be a joyful step toward marriage. He took his fiancée to the village during the Christmas holidays to introduce her to his mother and extended family. At first, everything appeared to go well. They enjoyed the festivities, and his eldest uncle immediately gave the couple his blessing, raising hopes that the visit would end positively.

However, he noticed that his mother remained unusually moody and distant throughout the visit. His fiancée also sensed the tension and became uncomfortable, worrying that his mother did not like her. To calm her fears, the man explained that it was part of tradition, claiming that some mothers do not openly show affection during a first introduction. His fiancée accepted the explanation and tried to remain patient.

Later, the man privately confronted his mother to ask why she was cold toward his fiancée and why she refused to respond to her friendliness. According to him, his mother bluntly said she does not like light-skinned women and also dislikes women with “big behinds.” The response left him shocked and confused, especially because his mother herself has similar physical features.

When he questioned her further and asked why his own mother had not faced such rejection from his grandmother, she avoided giving a clear answer. He then tried to reason with her, explaining that his fiancée is 29 years old, hardworking, a university graduate, and financially independent. Instead of softening her stance, his mother raised another objection, saying the woman’s level of education was a problem because he did not finish high school. She claimed this imbalance would lead to trouble in their marriage.

Despite repeated attempts to convince her otherwise, the man said his mother refused to change her mind. She went as far as demanding that his fiancée be left behind in the village for two weeks so she could “monitor” her. Knowing his mother’s character, he believed the request was simply a way to find more faults and further delay or block the marriage.

The man revealed that he will turn 41 on the 2nd of next month and that this is the sixth woman he has brought home for marriage, all of whom his mother has rejected. He explained that his mother raised him alone after his father abandoned them when he was just one year old. She supported him through life, provided the capital for his business, and played a major role in his success. Because of this, he said he has always respected and loved her deeply and finds it almost impossible to go against her wishes.

He said what was meant to be a joyful holiday ended in sadness, as the main purpose of the visit was not achieved. He admitted to begging his mother, kneeling down, and even crying, but she remained unmoved. According to him, she insists that she wants the best for him and claims she can see future problems that he cannot.

The situation has left him torn between his love for his fiancée and his loyalty to his mother. He described his fiancée as a good woman who does not deserve the repeated rejection and emotional pain. He added that his mother is a devoted Christian who attends church regularly, yet even after involving her priest, she refused to change her stance, insisting that her feelings are a revelation from God.

Now deeply confused and emotionally drained, the man says he does not know what else to do, as both choices seem to come with heavy consequences.
