A 55-year-old bricklayer has shared a heartbreaking account of how years of sacrifice and hard work to raise his family have ended in pain, rejection, and deep emotional distress.
The man, who has spent most of his life carrying bags of cement on his head and laying bricks under harsh weather conditions, said he did everything possible to provide for his family despite living in poverty.
He has been married for 21 years, and his wife sells tomatoes to support the household. Together, they raised three daughters, whom he says he loved deeply and supported with all he had.
According to him, things have taken a painful turn in recent years. His daughters, especially the eldest, no longer treat him with respect. His first daughter, nearly 20 and in her final year of high school, now lives what he described as a “flashy lifestyle,” wearing expensive Brazilian hair, using costly phones, and carrying designer handbags. She reportedly comes home very late at night, sometimes as late as 4 a.m., and speaks to him harshly whenever he tries to correct her.
He said she often insults him, mocking his appearance and his job. On one occasion, she allegedly told him that a “real father” is one who provides money, adding that he has never bought anything meaningful for her. The man recalled a moment when she deliberately poured a large amount of cash, said to be over 200,000 francs, onto the table in front of him and began counting it slowly, seemingly to provoke and humiliate him. He said his wife was present but remained silent.
When he calmly asked his daughter what kind of work she does to earn such money, she reportedly replied with contempt, telling him he would “die of jealousy” if he knew and mocking his daily earnings.
The situation reportedly became even more painful when his second daughter, 18-year-old Brenda, asked her elder sister for money to get her nails done. According to him, the eldest daughter responded by telling her to either ask their “lazy father” or use her own body to get money, making the statement in his presence. He said the words left him frozen and deeply wounded, especially considering the sacrifices he made to pay for their school fees, uniforms, and basic needs.
His youngest daughter, 16-year-old Lizzy, has also grown distant. He said she no longer calls him “Papa” and instead addresses him formally as “sir,” which he finds heartbreaking.
The man added that his wife no longer supports or defends him. She reportedly keeps her distance emotionally and has told him that he spoiled the children too much, warning him in the past that this could happen.
Now overwhelmed with pain, the father questions whether he failed as a parent or whether poverty has stripped him of dignity and respect in his own home. He said he sometimes considers leaving everything behind to return to the village to live a quiet life raising goats, but he is unsure if running away is the solution.
He has called on the public for genuine advice, asking whether other fathers have experienced similar situations and what he should do next, as he says the humiliation and emotional pain have become unbearable.
