Abia State governor, Alex Otti, met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, shortly after the president concluded a meeting with service chiefs.
Otti was sighted at the villa around midday, in what appears to be a continuation of behind-the-scenes political engagements following his recent visit to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto correctional centre.
Although details of Otti’s closed-door meeting with Tinubu were not immediately disclosed, there are strong indications that the discussion may be connected to ongoing efforts aimed at securing Kanu’s release. Otti had recently confirmed that he was pursuing a political and diplomatic approach to resolving the matter.
During his visit to the prison, Otti encouraged Kanu to remain strong, according to Ferdinand Ekeoma, his special adviser on media and publicity. Ekeoma said the governor noted that engagements he initiated more than two years ago have now been intensified as part of the broader push for progress on the issue.
Otti’s latest meeting with President Tinubu is seen by observers as another significant step in the ongoing political conversations surrounding Kanu’s detention and the calls for his release.
