Among the nominees is former presidential aide Reno Omokri — a development many supporters have long awaited.
Other high-profile individuals on the list include former chairman of the electoral agency Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmoud Yakubu; former Ekiti State first lady Angela Adebayo; ex-Governor of Enugu State Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; ex-Deputy Governor of Lagos State Femi Pedro; and ex-Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode. Also named were former first lady of Oyo State Fatima Florence Ajimobi, ex-Senator Grace Bent, former Abia State governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ondo State Senator Jimoh Ibrahim among others.
The nomination underscores a strategic repositioning of Nigeria’s foreign representation, blending political heavyweights with seasoned administrators and former officeholders. For Reno Omokri, this marks a significant personal milestone, and for many political watchers, the appointments reflect a broader diplomatic reset under Tinubu’s administration.
The Senate’s confirmation hearings are expected to begin soon, after which the nominees — if approved — will begin their assignments across Nigerian embassies worldwide.
