Niger Delta activist, Asari Dokubo, has demanded the immediate arrest and court martial of Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, the naval officer who was involved in a heated confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The incident, which has sparked national debate, reportedly happened during a security operation in Abuja, where the officer was seen exchanging harsh words with the minister.
Speaking on the matter, Dokubo strongly condemned the officer’s behavior, saying it was disrespectful and completely against the rules guiding military conduct. According to him, no uniformed officer has the right to challenge or exchange words with a sitting minister, especially during an official assignment.
Dokubo insisted that the officer acted beyond his authority, stressing that government hierarchy must always be respected.
He said:
“The officer should be court-marshalled. In the hierarchy of government, Wike is higher than him and the man that gave him the order, including the Chief of Naval Staff.”
He added that such actions, if left unpunished, could encourage indiscipline within the armed forces and weaken the respect between military personnel and civilian leadership.
So far, the Nigerian Navy has not issued an official response regarding the calls for disciplinary action, but the video of the confrontation continues to circulate widely on social media, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians.
