The horrifying act happened in Wailo town, located in the Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to the children’s father, Auwalu deceitfully lured his younger sister, Rukayya, into a nearby bush under false pretences before viciously attacking her and removing her eyes. The motive behind this heartless act, according to preliminary reports, was to gain sudden wealth through ritual means — a tragic reflection of the growing menace of ritual-related crimes across parts of Nigeria.
Residents of Wailo were left in disbelief as news of the act spread, describing Auwalu as a “quiet boy” who had never shown any signs of violent behaviour before the incident.

Following the attack, the helpless little girl was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where doctors battled to save her life.
Sadly, Dr. Shahir Umar Bello, an eye specialist at the hospital, confirmed that Rukayya will never be able to see again, as both eyes were completely removed and cannot be medically restored.
The devastating story has sparked outrage and sorrow across the country, with many calling for justice and stronger community vigilance against ritual-related crimes.
Meanwhile, local authorities have confirmed that the suspect, Auwalu Muhammad, has been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
