According to her posts, the deceased — an elderly man described as innocent and peaceful — was falsely accused of an issue he knew nothing about. The youths reportedly descended on him and set him on fire, leaving him with severe burns that eventually claimed his life.
Struggle for Survival
Mfon revealed that her family spent everything they had, rushing her father from one hospital to another in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he could not survive the injuries.
“My father was innocent… yet he was set on fire by Nsie community youths for what he knew nothing about just because he is an elderly man. Nobody will escape old age. We moved him from one hospital to another, spending everything we had, praying he would survive… but no,” she lamented.
The young lady, visibly heartbroken, said the cruel act has left her completely shattered, rendering her “parentless, fatherless, motherless, and brotherless.”
Allegations Against Community Leaders
In her series of posts, Mfon pointed accusing fingers at the youth president of Nsie community, alleging that he was the mastermind who incited the attack. She further claimed that when videos of her father being set on fire circulated in the community, nobody offered support or sympathy until after his death.
“When they set my father on fire and the videos were shared in the community group, nobody said a word. But now that he is gone, people are suddenly talking, saying youth president, youth president — the same youth president who is the main person that sent them to do this,” she alleged.
Screenshots from a community WhatsApp group shared by Mfon also suggested that some members hailed the act and called for further arrests of her family members.
Appeal for Justice
Mfon has now launched a public campaign on social media, appealing to activists, lawyers, human rights defenders, and government officials to step in and ensure justice is served. She specifically called on Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State to use his office to intervene in the matter.
“I cannot keep silent. Please, I am begging: help me seek justice. Help me by sharing this video until it reaches the right people — activists, lawyers, human rights defenders, and government leaders who can take action,” she pleaded.
Her heartbreaking appeal has gone viral, sparking outrage and renewed calls for the government to clamp down on jungle justice and community violence.
Public Reactions
Many Nigerians who reacted online expressed anger and sorrow over the incident. They condemned the growing trend of mob attacks and called on security agencies to arrest those behind the killing.
Human rights activists have also picked up the case, insisting that no one deserves such a gruesome death and demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command. However, pressure is mounting on both state authorities and security agencies to take swift action against the culprits.
