Her sister took to social media to share the family’s painful journey, revealing how the ordeal has left them in deep sorrow, poverty, and endless struggles.
According to her, their late father fought day and night to secure the release of his daughter. He cried daily “like a baby,” trekked long distances when he could no longer afford transport fare, and even sold the little he had to pay lawyers—who, sadly, did nothing to help. The weight of the battle broke him down, and he eventually slumped and died. His body still lies in the mortuary.
Now, the burden has fallen on the young sister, who is also a mother of three. She says she is responsible for her imprisoned sister’s weekly feeding, which costs ₦50,000, while also taking care of her sick mother and her own children.
“Some weeks, I have to borrow money. Mortuary bills have not been paid for three months. I smile online, but offline I cry every day,” she wrote in tears.
As if the struggles were not enough, the family recently received a burial demand list from their in-laws, detailing items and cash worth hundreds of thousands of naira that must be provided before their late father can be buried on November 15, 2025.
The list includes:
-
One live goat – ₦80,000
-
One piece of wrapper – ₦8,000
-
Ten cartons of beer – ₦100,000
-
Ten crates of soft drinks – ₦45,000
-
One carton of assorted – ₦30,000
-
Five litres of native gin – ₦20,000
-
Fifty litres of palm wine – ₦25,000
-
Cash of ₦500,000
-
Plus ₦100,000 contribution from the daughter, Margaret.
This has left the grieving family even more frustrated, with no one to turn to for support except kind-hearted strangers online.
The sister pleaded with Nigerians to be careful about wishing for another person’s life without knowing their hidden pains, saying:
“When you see me come here to smile and cash cruise, know there are hidden pains and tears offline.”
The family’s story has since gone viral, drawing sympathy from social media users who are calling for justice, support, and compassion.
