The victim, who was driving to an event in his own car, was in the company of friends travelling in another vehicle. According to one of his friends, the attack occurred during a traffic hold-up in the area.
During the incident, the assailants shot Elochukwu in the right leg and took away his personal belongings, including his mobile phone. He was rushed to the hospital immediately, where doctors began treatment. The case has since been reported to Uwani Police Division.
Residents say this latest attack adds to a growing number of violent incidents in Enugu State. Reports of robberies, shootings, and killings have become frequent, with many victims left either dead or severely injured.
The family of the victim expressed gratitude to God for his survival, describing him as “one of the lucky ones.” They called on security agencies not to relent in the fight against crime in the state.
“This could happen to anyone,” a relative said. “We thank God that Elochukwu lived, but we also appeal to security operatives to intensify efforts to make Enugu safe again.”
Enugu residents continue to express concern that criminal elements are attempting to turn the city into a dangerous zone.
