A young man identified as Amos Daniel, who is also known by the nickname “Gambit,” has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after he allegedly killed his girlfriend in cold blood inside a hotel room in Ayobo-Ipaja, Lagos State.
The sad incident happened on the evening of Thursday, 17th July 2025, and has left many people in shock, especially those who were present at the hotel during the tragedy. The suspect, Amos Daniel, is believed to be a member of a cult group and was said to have arrived at the hotel earlier in the day with two other young men. They reportedly checked into the hotel together around 5:00 p.m.
Later in the evening, a young lady, who was said to be the suspect’s girlfriend, joined them in the same room. All seemed normal at first, but everything changed around 10:00 p.m. when strange and frightening noises began coming from their room.
One of the hotel guests, a man who gave his name as Adio, said he was staying in the room next door and was alarmed by the sounds. According to him, it was not just the noise that worried him, but how unusual and loud it was. He said the noise was so disturbing that other guests in the hotel also noticed it, and one of them quickly called a security guard to check what was happening.
“When the security man came, he said he also heard the noise,” Adio explained. “He knocked several times, but nobody answered. So they decided to open the door with a spare key. When they opened the door, what we saw was too terrible to describe. A young woman was lying in a pool of her own blood.”
The shocking discovery caused panic among guests and hotel workers. Many people ran outside, screaming for help. The two other men who had checked in with Daniel had already disappeared. However, the hotel staff believed that the third person, Daniel, might still be within the compound.
They quickly began searching the premises. Moments later, one of the workers spotted a man running towards the hotel gate, trying to escape. That man turned out to be Daniel. He was chased and caught right there on the hotel premises.
One of the hotel workers, who did not want his name mentioned, said, “We were looking everywhere when someone saw him near the gate, trying to sneak out. People quickly grabbed him before he could escape. He was hiding inside the compound all along.”
When Daniel was caught, an angry crowd gathered around him. Before the police could arrive, some members of the mob beat him severely. Eventually, the police came and rescued him from the mob before taking him away in handcuffs.
According to police sources, Daniel later confessed during interrogation that he and his friends planned the murder for ritual purposes. This confession has only increased the anger and sadness surrounding the case. Many people cannot believe that someone could kill a fellow human being, especially someone he was close to, just for the sake of money or power.
The police are still searching for the two other men who were with Daniel in the hotel room before the murder. They are treating the case as a ritual killing and say they will not rest until everyone involved is arrested and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the body of the young lady has been taken to a nearby mortuary, where it will undergo an autopsy. Her identity has not yet been officially released, but some people who saw her at the hotel before the incident said she looked very young and seemed to trust the people she was with.
This terrible incident has raised many questions about safety and security in hotels, especially in Lagos. Some people are now calling for hotels to start collecting more details about their guests and to install more cameras in hallways and rooms.
A resident of Ayobo, who gave his name as Mr. Bamidele, said, “How can three young men walk into a hotel with a girl and murder her without anyone stopping them? If not for the noise, maybe they would have escaped completely. Hotels must do more to protect their guests.”
The Lagos State Police Command has promised to investigate the case fully and ensure that everyone responsible faces the law. They are also calling on members of the public who may have useful information about the other suspects to come forward and assist them in their investigation.
As of now, Daniel remains in police custody, and legal steps are being taken to prepare charges against him. The case is expected to go to court very soon.
Many Nigerians are still reacting to the news online. Some are expressing deep sadness and fear, while others are asking for stronger punishment for those who carry out ritual killings. One woman wrote on social media, “Every day we hear terrible stories like this. Why are young people becoming so heartless? Something must be done.”
This tragic story serves as another painful reminder of how unsafe the world can be, especially for young women who trust the wrong people. It also shows the importance of staying alert, asking questions, and being very careful about who we follow or believe.
As investigations continue, Nigerians are hoping for justice — not just for the poor young lady who lost her life, but for every victim of senseless violence and ritual crime across the country.
