Burial Plans Announced for Sylvester Oromoni’s Mother, Three Years After Her Son’s Controversial Death
Mrs Oromoni died in November 2024, three years after losing her son under tragic and highly controversial circumstances. According to close family sources, she had battled depression and high blood pressure following the death of Sylvester, coupled with the long and emotionally draining legal struggle that followed.
Her son, Sylvester Oromoni Jr, became a national headline in November 2021 after his sudden death at Dowen College, Lagos. The family alleged that he was bullied, beaten, and forced to ingest a harmful substance by some senior students. The school denied the allegations, claiming the young boy sustained injuries while playing football.
The case sparked outrage across Nigeria, with calls for justice and accountability. Multiple autopsies were carried out, each giving conflicting conclusions. While one autopsy reportedly indicated chemical poisoning, a Lagos coroner’s inquest later declared that Sylvester died of natural causes linked to sepsis.
Despite all the attention and investigations, no one was found guilty, and the accused students were eventually cleared. The Oromoni family expressed disappointment over the outcome, and for over two years, they refused to bury their son. He was eventually laid to rest in January 2024 in Warri, Delta State. Sadly, just a few months later, his mother also passed on.
Her burial will now take place in Warri, and the family has called on friends, sympathisers, and well-wishers to join them as they lay her to rest.
Many Nigerians still remember how Mrs Oromoni fought fiercely for justice for her son. Videos of her crying and praying for God to vindicate her boy touched the hearts of many. Her death, not long after finally burying her son, has been described by many as deeply painful and symbolic.
The Oromoni family has been through unimaginable grief over the last few years. First, the sudden and unresolved death of Sylvester, followed by the loss of his mother, who stood strong during the darkest moments.
As the family prepares to bid farewell to their matriarch, many are once again calling for true justice, healing, and closure—not just for the Oromonis, but for all families going through similar pain in silence.
May her soul rest in perfect peace.
