The Gaza Government Media Office said on Thursday that at least 26 separate massacres had been carried out in the last 48 hours alone. These attacks, it said, targeted displaced families, markets, shelters, schools, homes, and even hungry civilians searching for food.
Since dawn on Thursday, at least 73 more people have been killed, including 33 people who were only trying to get food from aid centres. These aid sites are said to be operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is backed by both Israel and the United States.
According to medical workers who spoke to Al Jazeera, 13 people were killed in an attack on a tent in al-Mawasi, while 11 others lost their lives in a strike on the Mustafa Hafez School, where many displaced families were hiding west of Gaza City. Several others were injured.
The situation on the ground has become unbearable.
A reporter from Al Jazeera, Tareq Abu Azzoum, who was speaking from Deir el-Balah, said people who were simply waiting for food were suddenly shot at. Survivors he spoke with said there were no warnings, no alarms — only sudden gunfire as bullets rained down on the crowd.
“They were just hoping to get something to eat,” he said, “and instead they saw people falling beside them.”
Some videos and reports obtained by the Associated Press (AP) revealed that US contractors guarding the food centres used live bullets and stun grenades on desperate people. Two of these contractors, who chose to speak anonymously, said many of the guards were not trained, not properly checked, and acted like they had been given the freedom to do anything.
Several human rights groups, including Oxfam, Amnesty International, and Save the Children, have now demanded the immediate shutdown of the GHF, accusing it of doing more harm than good.
These organisations said over 600 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 4,000 wounded while trying to collect food since GHF operations started in May. They also said that Israeli soldiers and armed men often shoot at civilians at these aid centres.

The total number of people killed in Gaza since the war began has now reached 56,647, with 134,105 others wounded, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. In Israel, around 1,139 people were killed in the October 7 attacks led by Hamas, with over 200 people taken as captives.
As all of this goes on, hope for peace remains uncertain.
Hamas has confirmed that it is studying a new proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, but the group wants a full agreement that will end the war completely and remove Israeli forces from Gaza.
They said they were speaking with mediators and trying to reach common ground that could bring back peace. The announcement followed a statement by former US President Donald Trump, who said Israel had agreed to the ceasefire terms and urged Hamas to do the same before things get worse.
Trump is now pushing both Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement, especially regarding the release of Israeli captives.
A reporter from Al Jazeera, Hamdah Salhut, reporting from Jordan’s capital Amman, said this is the first time since the war started that Israeli leaders are showing signs that they may be ready to bring the fighting to an end.
She added that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been holding meetings with his security team and may be changing his position because of the pressure from Trump.
But for many people in Gaza, these promises and negotiations mean little when lives are being lost every hour.
Many are asking: How many more children must die before peace becomes real?
