A man has been arrested by police in Anambra after he was found with a stolen baby. One Joshua Simeon, aged thirty-two, from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, is now in custody. He was caught on Saturday by officers from the Ogidi Area Command.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, explained that the arrest happened at Nkpor Central Park in the Idemili North Local Government Area. The police recovered a five-year-old girl named Nkemdilim Jacob. She is believed to have been taken from her parents at Umuota Village in Obosi.
The suspect was already on a commercial vehicle and heading to an unknown place when the officers intercepted him. He is now being questioned to find out his reasons for taking the child and to check if this is part of a wider child trafficking network.
Authorities are working to contact the family of the child for a quick reunion. The police have reassured the public that they will continue to protect vulnerable members of society and combat child abduction and trafficking.
