Three young men have been punished for pretending to be Evangelist Ebuka Obi to trick people from the Zion Prayer Movement. This is a big win against cyber-crime by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2024.
The men, Odion Victor, Amos Godwin, and Ayomide Michael, went to court at the Edo State High Court in Benin. The EFCC said they used social media to copy Evangelist Ebuka’s name. They made fake social media accounts and asked people to send money. They told people the money was for helping sick people, for spiritual breakthroughs, or for special prayers.
The men told members of the Zion Ministry to send money to their own bank accounts. The judge, Hon. Justice G.O. Madegbelo, listened to the case and decided that the three men were guilty. He sentenced them to do Community Service.
Justice Madegbelo also ordered them to give up their mobile phones. The money in their bank accounts was taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the EFCC because it was part of the crime.
This case shows that the EFCC is working hard to stop cyber-crime. Stories like this are shared on platforms like PrudentJ2 to keep everyone informed. Stay with PrudentJ2 for more updates on important news happening in Nigeria.
