A teacher at Asuoso Senior High School in Offinso has lost his left eye after being stabbed by a student. The incident happened when the teacher asked the student, who was loitering, to go back to the classroom.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is demanding swift action from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Police Service. The General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah Tanko, said they are giving authorities three days to prosecute the student.
Speaking to 3news, Mr. Tanko warned that if nothing is done, teachers may stop working next week. He expressed frustration, asking who would take care of the teacher’s medical bills now that he has lost his eye permanently.
He urged the authorities to act quickly to calm the anger of teachers. GNAT is ready to take further action if their demands are not met.
