He was initially condemned and later sentenced to life imprisonment. This is how his story began:
After completing primary school, Ibrahim could not proceed to secondary school due to financial difficulties. He managed to secure a job in Kano, working in an office that handled contracts for expatriates.
One day, a robbery occurred in the office, during which ₦500,000 was stolen, and the staff were threatened to hand over the cash. Some of his co-workers, who had personal grudges against him, framed him. One of them claimed to have seen him during the robbery, while another alleged that they recognized his voice. Ibrahim was subsequently arrested and charged with robbery with violence.
After spending several years in custody, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. While in prison, Ibrahim decided to turn his life around. He went back to school and completed his secondary education. After 20 years, he filed an appeal against his conviction.
The judge reviewed his case and ruled that no one was injured during the robbery, and no property was destroyed. The 20 years he had already served were deemed sufficient punishment, and Ibrahim was released the following day..
