The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has asked for immediate action on the case of a young man sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said that the Governor has ordered the Attorney General to investigate the matter and take steps to pardon the young man. He promised that the process for mercy would be completed before the end of the year.
The Governor said:
“I have heard the sad story of a young man who was sentenced to death in Osun State for stealing a fowl. I have asked the Attorney General to look into the case and take steps to grant him mercy. Osun is a place of fairness and justice, and we will ensure lives are protected.”
The young man’s parents recently shared their pain in an interview with actress Biola Adebayo. They said their son, who was a medical student, was falsely accused of stealing the fowl and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit.
Governor Adeleke has assured the public that he is treating this case as very urgent.
