Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has recounted a memorable incident involving the procurement of 30,000 laptops for schools during his tenure.
In a video shared on Dr. Moses Paul's X account, Obi revealed that HP initially refused to fulfill the order, doubting the state’s ability to pay. The laptops were part of a government initiative to improve education and technology in Anambra.
"When we ordered 30,000 laptops from HP, they said they wouldn’t supply us because they believed we couldn’t afford to pay. They canceled the order," Obi shared.
Determined to see the project succeed, Obi personally intervened by transferring the full payment directly to the company. This action ensured the successful delivery of the laptops and demonstrated his commitment to improving education in the state.
The incident reflects the challenges some government initiatives face in gaining trust from global corporations and highlights the importance of decisive leadership in overcoming such hurdles.
