The Kwara State Government has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member by teachers at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
The incident, which reportedly took place in the Ilorin East Local Government Area, has sparked public outrage.
According to reports, the corps member was beaten and her clothing was torn after being scolded for not greeting the teachers properly. The NYSC member had visited the school to collect her clearance letter when the assault occurred.
Public Outcry and Actions
The assault has raised serious concerns about professionalism and abuse of power in educational institutions.
The NYSC’s Kwara State Head of Information, Morakinyo Oladipo, confirmed the incident and assured the public that steps are being taken to ensure justice.
He added that the corps member would be reposted to another location to help her recover from the traumatic experience.
Government’s Stand
Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the state Commissioner for Education, condemned the act, labeling it as unacceptable. She affirmed the government’s commitment to peace and discipline in schools.
To address the situation, officials from the Ministry of Education and the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission visited the school to investigate and maintain calm.
The Commissioner also urged patience as disciplinary actions are taken against the teacher involved, identified as Mrs. Amuzat Fatima Nike.
The case has drawn widespread calls for accountability and justice for the assaulted corps member.
