A health emergency unfolded at Mshuluzane Mayisela Primary School in Zithobeni, Gauteng, after 25 students were rushed to the hospital, allegedly after consuming poisonous snacks. The learners, all in distress, began showing symptoms shortly after eating the snacks sold near the school.
Within minutes, more than 20 ambulances arrived to transport the children to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Panic spread quickly among parents and school staff as the affected children complained of severe stomach pains, nausea, and dizziness. Authorities are now investigating the source of the snacks.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as teachers and medical personnel tried to control the situation. “I never see something like this in my life! The children were just collapsing, one by one,” a concerned teacher said.
Local health officials, in cooperation with the school administration, are working around the clock to determine the type of contamination. Parents have been advised to avoid any unverified food sold to schoolchildren until the investigation is complete.
One of the parents, visibly shaken, said, “How can someone sell poison to children? This one no be normal thing o! We are all praying for our kids.”
The community is calling for stricter regulations on food vendors operating around schools, fearing for the safety of their children. Meanwhile, the learners remain under medical observation, with doctors monitoring their recovery closely.
Parents and guardians have been urged to check on their children’s well-being, and a crisis team has been set up to provide emotional support for families affected by the incident.
As the investigation unfolds, many are left wondering who is responsible and how this could have happened, while hoping for the swift recovery of the affected children.
