The recall applies to 517,472 Rogues made between 2014 and 2020, and 194,986 Nissan Rogue Sport vehicles made between 2017 and 2022.
The problem is linked to the “jackknife” which can weaken over time, meaning that it may no longer be able to hold the key fob in the right position.
Nissan will issue recall notices in March to owners of the affected vehicles and will work with car dealerships to apply a solution that involves fixing the keys.
The Japanese carmaker has halted all sales of the affected models until a solution to the problem becomes available.
