The Federal Government has confirmed the withdrawal of power subsidies, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Mr Sanusi Garba, Chairman of the Commission, said the assessment was carried out in accordance with a multi-year tariff order that demands that power tariffs be reviewed every six months.
The confirmation from NERC comes as the country continues to grapple with an energy crisis marked by long lines for gasoline, rising fuel prices, and national grid outages.
Mr Garba stated that it is the responsibility of energy distribution firms to advise their consumers of the results of tariff reviews and power costs.
He blamed vandalism of gas pipes to power plants, plant maintenance, and a trip on the 330KV line from Ughelli power plant for the poor status of energy delivery and grid breakdowns.
