- Delivery companies record an increase in orders during the Christmas week
It is also Christmas week, a time of remarkable sharing of gifts and shopping. The main idea during this celebration is the movement of gift items in the form of hampers, and other gifts wrapped from one place to another.
Christmas is a time when people especially show love and affection to their loved ones and families by giving presents and spending time with them. The act symbolizes the payment made by the three wise men of the child Jesus after his birth, according to the Holy Bible.
However, with the slowdown in the effects of the epidemic, people are more inclined to send their gifts than to travel to deliver them.
In the same way, consumers now use more online shopping and have to rely on shipping passengers and delivery service companies to deliver their goods to them.
Due to recent developments, service delivery activities and their planning have recorded significant improvements this Christmas season compared to previous months and more than in the previous year.
Christmas, the gold mine of delivery companies
This gift-giving act has turned into a great business opportunity for retailers involved in the sale of gift items, and by extension, delivery companies. As a result of the movement ban, due to the covid-19 epidemic, service delivery and labor companies have grown in large numbers across the country, especially in large cities.
Delivery companies are now playing a major role in the Nigerian economy, helping to close the supply chain affected by transporting goods from retailers to the customers they want. The Christmas celebration has been seen as a gold mine for service delivery and business, locally and internationally.
According to Adeola from Peacock Logistics, he explained that the service delivery business has seen significant growth during this period compared to previous months, with the growing demand for domestic and international exports.
"Compared to previous months, more customers are coming in to help us deliver different items locally and abroad," he said.
The biggest challenge, however, was to deal with it at this time according to him the inability to meet very short periods of time.
He explained that some customers will bring their goods and will require them to be delivered as soon as 2 hours, which has been a huge task for the company and its passengers, especially in a very dense area like Lagos State.
However, he pointed out that they were able to manage those challenges and ensure the satisfaction of their customers in the end.
In an interview with Mr. Kingsley, a delegate working in Lagos State, confirmed that the delivery business is currently in the best position due to the Christmas festivities.
He added, "I have had to move every day this week to the island and to the mainland, in fact it seems like this should never end."
He added that the increase in demand for service delivery will help the newborn industry to grow significantly as the availability and trust of the service continues to grow.
Why this is important
The transport and service sector is a growing sector and plays a key role in the successful operation of trade in the economy. According to the NBS, the sector, which is a sub-sector of the transportation and storage sector, recorded an impressive growth in the third quarter of 2021.
The transport sector grew by 6.49% year-on-year in real terms in Q3 2021, while postal and courier services recorded annual growth of 3.9% over the same period. Apart from good statistics, there is room for growth in this sector, as the times before the covid-19 epidemic were not as exciting as the latest.
With job growth in the sector, it will be interesting to see the GDP figures for the last quarter of the year, and how this will be reflected in the national economy.
